Providence Swedish Cancer Institute (Unpaid) Health Education Internship [deadline 3/13] – Career & Internship Center

JOB SUMMARY

Job Status: Unpaid, 36 hours per week for 10 weeks (June – August 2026); 2 positions.

The health education intern will staff the Cancer Education Center and support its operations, develop evidence-based print and online education materials, work on various education projects, and have opportunities to connect and collaborate with the PSCI network and community partners.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Health education interns work alongside Health Education Specialists in program/project coordination and development at the PSCI.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Staffing the PSCI’s education center, including daily patient contact
  2. Staffing the PSCI’s toll-free phone network and patient triaging program (XCANCER)
  3. Providing clinical data customized specifically for patients and their cancer type and stage
  4. Educating patients and families on the availability and means of accessing a variety of PSCI services and community resources
  5. Performing wig fits for patients experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment
  6. Developing, reviewing, and editing health education materials
  7. Conducting research and writing content for patient newsletters
  8. Attending patient education classes, support groups, and community events
  9. Collaborating with PSCI departments to meet the health education needs of the patient population, family members, and community
  10. Taking on additional projects based on supervisor input and present business need, including but not limited to grant applications, community outreach, and more.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent organization, research, writing and communication skills
  • Comfortable talking with patients, family members, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the community through various communication channels including phone, email, and in-person
  • Able to work independently and collaborate with others to utilize expertise from multiple sources
  • Maintains professionalism at all times

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Junior and senior level undergraduate students with a background in health education and promotion, such as those majoring in health education, community or public health, or related fields are eligible to apply.
