China is set to host the second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Sports Games in August, featuring 32 different events across competitive and scenario-based categories. The competition will take place from August 22 to 26 at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing, as announced by the Beijing Municipal People’s Government.
The event will include sports such as athletics, football, gymnastics, weightlifting, martial arts, tug of war, and pitch-pot, among others. This year’s edition introduces tug of war and pitch-pot as new competitive events, with the latter designed to test precise force control and sensing abilities in the robots.
The scenario-based category will feature six events focused on home-based service tasks and emergency response situations, such as firefighting and rescue operations.
This follows China’s recent hosting of a humanoid robot half-marathon in Beijing’s Yizhuang district on April 19, where robots competed in a long-distance running event.
