The Black Ferns have retained the Pacific Four Series title with a dominant 40-5 victory over Australia in the first Anzac Day Test between the two teams, played at Sunshine Coast Stadium. The New Zealand side opened the scoring early, with outside centre Amy du Plessis touching down in the fourth minute to set the tone for a commanding performance. While Australia responded through captain Siokapesi Palu Sekona in the 23rd minute to reduce the deficit to 7-5, the Black Ferns shifted gears and scored 33 unanswered points to secure the win. Winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga contributed a double, while Veisinia Mahutariki-Fakalelu, Justine McGregor and Laura Bayfield also scored tries for New Zealand. Renee Holmes was successful with five conversions from six attempts. The victory extended the Black Ferns’ unbeaten run against the Wallaroos to 30 Tests and allowed them to retain both the Pacific Four Series crown and the O’Reilly Cup. The result also completed a clean sweep of the four-nation tournament following earlier wins over the United States, and Canada. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Auckland on August 22.
