Aggies Fall to Nevada 11-5, as Wolf Pack Pull Away Late

Score: Nevada 11, UC Davis 5

Location: Davis, Calif. (Dobbins Stadium)

Records: UC Davis 5-6, Nevada 4-5

THE SHORT STORY: Despite a three-run home run from Evan Gentil early in the contest, UC Davis ultimately fell 11-5 to Nevada in Sunday’s series finale at Dobbins Stadium.

LEADING OFF

  • Evan Gentil provided the biggest swing of the day for the Aggies, launching a three-run home run in the third inning to finish with a team-high three RBIs.
  • Tyler Howard continued to be a steady presence on the basepaths, tallying a pair of hits and scoring two runs.
  • Elijah McNeal contributed to the offensive effort, recording a pair of hits and scoring once.
  • Jack Meek was a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing a flawless, hitless inning of relief with one strikeout.
  • For Nevada, Junhyuk Kwon was the driving force, launching two home runs and driving in three runs to pace the Wolf Pack.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nevada struck first in the top of the second inning, pushing a run across on an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Wolf Pack extended their advantage in the top of the third inning by pushing across three runs to build a 4-0 cushion.
  • UC Davis responded in the bottom half of the third. With two runners on, Gentil blasted a towering three-run homer to left field, instantly cutting the deficit to 4-3 and putting the Aggies right back in the game.
  • However, Nevada quickly reclaimed the momentum. The Wolf Pack used a solo home run and an RBI single in the fourth, followed by a two-run homer from Kwon in the fifth, to stretch their lead to 8-3.
  • The Aggies continued to fight, manufacturing a run in the sixth inning when Howard scored on a fielder’s choice to trim the margin to 8-4.
  • Nevada continued to add on in the eighth inning with a decisive three-run burst, capped off by a two-run single to push the advantage to 11-4.
  • UC Davis managed one final run in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Zach Story to score Joey Wright, but the Aggies comeback would end there, with Nevada securing the 11-5 win.
