Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated an injured city bus driver, 59, early this morning after TheBus he was reportedly driving crashed into a tree in Kalihi.
According to Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division and Vehicular Homicide Section, the 59-year-old man was traveling westbound on North Vineyard Boulevard when he lost control of TheBus for unknown reasons, traveled into the center median and crashed into the tree, where it came to a rest.
The man suffered multiple injuries in the crash at the corner of Pua Lane and North Vineyard Boulevard, according to EMS. No other riders were reportedly onboard.
Police said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Police reported that at this time speed, drugs or alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Honolulu paramedics responded to the scene at 7:10 a.m. and administered advance life support to the man who was found unresponsive with multiple injuries. He was taken to an emergency room in critical condition. His identity was not immediately released.
