GR Airbnb renters from Massachusetts caught in flash flooding

West Michigan faced flash flooding Tuesday, reviving memories for Tina Wright, a former resident contemplating a move back after years in Massachusetts.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Many areas across West Michigan experienced flash flooding from the rounds of thunderstorms on Tuesday night.

The roads were flooded near the area of Lake Michigan Dr. & Lane Ave.

Tina Wright and her husband are staying at an Airbnb near that intersection. They’re thinking about moving back to the area after living in Massachusetts for 16 years.

“I just said to my daughter-in-law, who’s with us, I said, I haven’t seen weather like this since we left Michigan 16 years ago, because we don’t get weather like this in Massachusetts,” Wright said.

Wright said that they’re planning to look at houses on Lake Michigan on Wednesday.

“Maybe this is a sign from God that we need a lake house,” Wright said.

She also expressed concern for the owners of the house over the potential flooding they might have to deal with.

“I kind of worry about the homeowners, like, is their basement going to flood?”

They said they were at Woodland Mall before the rain started and made it back to the Airbnb just in time.
