El capitán estadounidense, Monank Patel, ganó el sorteo y optó por lanzar primero, pero la sólida actuación de Suryakumar Yadav, con 84 carreras en 49 bolas, llevó a India a un total de 161/9. La respuesta de Estados Unidos se vio limitada por la excelente actuación del lanzador Mohammed Siraj, quien tomó 3/29, dejando a su equipo en 132/8 al final de los 20 overs.
Aunque Shadley van Schalkwyk ofreció un buen desempeño con el balón para Estados Unidos, no fue suficiente para contrarrestar el poderío ofensivo de India, liderado por su capitán.
Con esta victoria, India se coloca en la cima del Grupo A con dos puntos, seguida por Pakistán.
