Strong Start for Track & Field in Outdoor Opener

CONWAY, Ark. – SWOSU Track & Field opened its outdoor season over the weekend at the Hendrix Invitational.

A group of freshmen field athletes made strong impressions in their first collegiate outdoor meet. Katie Lewis, Rylee LaRue, Milly Hughes, and Haley Baalson each delivered solid performances to begin the spring campaign.

Lewis became just the second athlete in program history to clear the three-meter mark in the pole vault. LaRue (high jump), Hughes (discus), and Baalson (shot put) all posted marks that rank inside the program’s top five, establishing promising starting points for the season.

On the track, seniors Makenlee Shieldnight and Madison Radke recorded a new personal bests in the 1500 meters.

With the opener complete, SWOSU will look to build momentum at the Bethel Invitational in North Newton, Kansas on Saturday, March 21.
