El mundo de la animación rindió homenaje a lo mejor del año en la 53ª edición de los premios Annie, y la noche estuvo dominada por un fenómeno de Netflix: KPop Demon Hunters. La película arrasó con la ceremonia, llevándose a casa 10 premios, incluyendo el galardón a Mejor Película, Mejor Dirección para Maggie Kang y Chris Appelhans, y Mejor Actuación de Voz para Arden Cho, quien da vida a Rumi.
KPop Demon Hunters, que se ha convertido en el filme más popular de Netflix con más de 482 millones de visualizaciones y una banda sonora que ha acumulado 11 mil millones de reproducciones, también fue reconocida por su escritura, diseño de personajes, animación, efectos visuales y edición.
La película independiente Acro, que tuvo su estreno en Cannes, se llevó el premio a Mejor Película Independiente y competirá por el Oscar a Mejor Película de Animación el próximo mes, enfrentándose a KPop Demon Hunters, Zootopia 2, Elio y Little Amélie or the Character of Rain.
En la categoría de televisión, Netflix también brilló con Love, Death + Robots, que obtuvo tres premios, sumándose a sus 17 premios Emmy. Win or Lose, la primera serie animada de larga duración de Pixar, y Common Side Effects de Adult Swim, también fueron reconocidas con tres premios cada una. Dan Mintz, por su trabajo en Bob’s Burgers, y un episodio de The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball de Hulu, también fueron galardonados.
Los premios Annie también reconocieron a figuras destacadas de la industria con los premios jurados. Sandy Rabins recibió el premio June Foray por su impacto positivo en la animación, mientras que Christopher Miller, Phil Lord y Chris Sanders fueron honrados con el premio Winsor McCay por su trayectoria.
