One person has been taken into custody following an overnight incident on an isolated northern Lake Huron island, according to fire officials who were involved with the situation.
The Bois Blanc Fire Department, based on the island east of Mackinac Island in northern Lake Huron, said a «subject» was in custody and there were no known injuries in a Facebook post at 9:10 p.m.
The Michigan State Police and Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office have not commented on the incident on the island.
At about 6:30 p.m. Monday the BBIFD said it «is aware of a potential situation involving automatic weapons being fired on the Island.»
The fire department said law enforcement was present and was managing the incident.
«We are standing by to provide support as necessary,» the department said.
Where is Bois Blanc Island?
The island, 6 miles by 12 miles in size, is the largest island in the Straits of Mackinac. It’s 5 miles north of the Lower Peninsula and is served by a ferry from Cheboygan.
Unlike Mackinac Island, vehicles are allowed on Bois Blanc.
