Tech tennis travels to Alabama A&M for Friday affair in Huntsville

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A one-match weekend is the scene for the Tennessee Tech tennis team as the Golden Eagles are on the road to go toe-to-toe with Alabama A&M on Friday, Mar. 13. First serve with the Bulldogs in Huntsville is set for 2 p.m. CT.

A look at Tennessee Tech

The Golden Eagles (4-6) enter the matchup having gone 4-2 over the last six contests. After a Mar. 8 postponement of a home get-together with Cumberland, Tech was last spotted on the courts on Mar. 3 against No. 63 ETSU. The Golden Eagles fell 4-0 to the Bucs.

Tech’s only other match in Cookeville was a 4-3 victory over Lipscomb on Feb. 27. The Golden Eagles have road wins over Georgia State and Eastern Kentucky as well as a neutral-site nod over Furman.

Alex Alvarez and Davids Spaks lead the club with four singles wins apiece. Murilo Burckhardt and Diego Munoz each have three solo triumphs. The nationally-ranked Tech tandem of Alvarez and Spaks are tied with the duo of Burckhardt and Munoz for the most doubles victories, behind four wins each.

A look at Alabama A&M

Following an 0-5 start to the spring, the Bulldogs have put together a recent 3-2 stretch over the squad’s last five affairs. Alabama A&M (3-8) has already unwrapped SWAC play, winning both of its conference matches behind back-to-back 4-0 decisions over Mississippi Valley State on Mar. 5 and Southern on Mar. 6.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-0 defeat at Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. The team’s other victory this season was a 4-3 nod against Austin Peay on Feb. 28.

Eduarde de Benedictis Andreta is the Alabama A&M leader with four singles victories. Arnav Panthage has posted three solo triumphs. Tasso Moreira and de Benedictis Andreta sit atop the team’s doubles leaderboard, thanks to four tandem wins.

Inside the series

Friday’s meeting in Huntsville will be the first-ever gathering in the series.
