The Vermont Supreme Court is holding its annual “On the Road” series at Vermont Law and Graduate School on Wednesday, March 18, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. During the session, the Court will hear oral arguments in three cases in Oakes Hall on the VLGS campus.
“We are excited to go to VLGS again this year,” says Chief Justice Paul Reiber. “Holding oral arguments on campus provides students and the public the opportunity to watch the Court up close. An appeal is an important part of the judicial process and demonstrates how legal disagreements are resolved through dialogue with the lawyers in the cases.”
The Court will consider cases involving the following issues:
- Did Middlebury College violate rights enforceable by the estate of Governor Mead by removing the Mead name from a chapel on campus?
- Did the court violate defendant’s rights in sentencing him for two counts of sexual assault following a plea agreement?
- Did Green Mountain Power owe a duty of care to a child who trespassed onto its property and was injured after climbing a metal tower?
