A 66-year-old West Milwaukee man died after being struck by a vehicle March 9 near the intersection of West National Avenue and South 54th Street, according to the Village of West Milwaukee Police Department.
Police found the pedestrian, later identified as Calvin Young Jr. by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, in the roadway in the 5400 block of West National Avenue when they arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m.
Police began providing aid until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, Young was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8:04 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
The medical examiner’s office listed the preliminary manner of Young’s death as an accident. An autopsy is scheduled.
Officers said the driver involved in the incident, a 30-year-old Milwaukee woman, was taken into custody, with charges being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said the woman had six children in her vehicle at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Village of West Milwaukee Police Department.
