🚨 WPTV INVESTIGATION: Florida is in its worst…

Yes, we’re still in drought in Florida. Predictably, some groups are screaming about agriculture getting water for their crops «while the state is asking people to stop watering their lawns». A few points:

A) Agriculture in the Everglades Agricultural Area ISN’T just sugar but your leafy greens, sweet corn, rice, and a whole host of other crops. It’s pretty stupid to advocate against your food supply! And for anyone still claiming «sugar isn’t food», I’ll refer you back to the first sentence of this point and I’d expect your next fundraising banquet to be dessert-free!

B )There is a plan for allocation of water during drought and while it’s dry, the circumstances haven’t triggered implementation of that plan. It’s premature and hypocritical to cry about water allocations to permitted legal users while continuing to water lawns and wash cars with entitled abandon!

C) It is the dry season and Florida is naturally supposed to dry out from time to time… The concern, environmentally, is minimal unless the rains don’t come in May/June. In fact, drought and fire are a part of Mother Nature’s plan for Florida. It’s always been this way.

D) In other words, while the drought is real and we should be mindful of water use, this situation is being leveraged by the usual groups to continue to push their anti-ag agenda.

E) When every field turns to concrete and our choices in the grocery store are limited, I hope these people look in the mirror and know they are responsible. Farmers need our support, not constant attacks. Why? Because Snail Kites and Gopher Tortoises live on farms, but do pretty poorly in parking lots!
