On Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 8:58 AM, Deputy Thomas J. Albanese, 41, died when a Mercedes Benz struck his motorcycle at the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Paramount Boulevard in the City of Lakewood. At the time of the collision, Deputy Albanese was working an overtime traffic enforcement assignment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle ahead of him. Unfortunately, the severe force of the impact hurled him from his motorcycle, and he died instantly.

Deputy Albanese was a seven-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department and part of the Marine Corps from March 2001 through March 2010. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served four tours in Iraq and was highly decorated.
