5:33PM: Situational Update, the good news is the tornado threat, in my opinion, is all but done across Eastern NC. I still won’t say there is a 0% chance a Tornado Warning is not issued over the next 1-3 hours across Eastern NC, but it seems very low.
Back across Central NC the 3rd and final around of showers/storms are moving in, and this main threat with this is just some gusty winds and a quick burst of rain. This is the cold front so temperatures will crash quickly and the winds will be breezy.
Across the mountains, snow has moved in. Watch out for some slick roads.
The high-end severe weather threat today busted, and I won’t decline that I am glad it did. But there are many questions here, because in the future, how do we message this, and people don’t just assume it won’t happen. As I mentioned yesterday (it could happen), and as it did today, the widespread, much-needed rain we had this morning into the afternoon really cut down on the severe risk. As a meteorologist, my goal is to communicate the potential and risks, and I’ll continue to explore ways to communicate it down to earth without hype while showing you the science behind it!
