Huntsville moves forward on new parking lot near Von Braun Center

Published on March 12, 2026

The City of Huntsville will build a surface parking lot near the Von Braun Center (VBC) after approving a contract with Grayson Carter & Son Contracting.

The parking lot will be at the southwest corner of Monroe Street and Holmes Avenue within the footprint of the Front Row mixed-use development that’s under construction. It is part of a 2023 development agreement with Front Row developers for the City to ground lease and use a portion of the site for public parking. The new parking lot will be City owned and operated.

As the downtown area continues to grow and expand, so does the need for additional public parking.  The ground lease with Front Row allows the City to increase downtown parking inventory in the most cost-effective solution given the needs adjacent to the VBC, Big Spring Park and the Pedestrian Access & Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) project.

It will also offset parking spaces lost when Lot K on Clinton Avenue becomes a staging area for the PARC project that will soon begin refurbishing and enhancing Pinhook Creek.
