U-M to Welcome Wisconsin, Nebraska to Ann Arbor to Begin B1G Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan men’s tennis team (4-4) will open Big Ten Conference play this weekend, welcoming Wisconsin (9-1) on Friday (March 6) and Nebraska (7-2) on Sunday (March 8) to the Varsity Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday. Admission is free to both matches.

Notes

• Michigan finished non-conference action at 4-4, with three of its four setbacks coming against top-15 opponents. The Wolverines have been strong at home, posting a 3-1 mark at the Varsity Tennis Center.

• U-M has controlled the all-time series against Wisconsin, owning an 87-9-1 advantage. Since 2000, Michigan is 26-2 against the Badgers. Wisconsin enters the weekend at 9-1 overall, riding an eight-match winning streak with its lone loss coming on the road to No. 16 Baylor.

• Michigan holds a 12-2 edge in the all-time series with Nebraska. The Huskers claimed a 5-2 decision last season to snap an eight-match Wolverine win streak in the matchup. Nebraska is 7-2 this season, with all but one of its matches played at home.

•  Max Dahlin is on a five-match win streak at No. 1 singles and is 7-1 in dual play. He’s taken down eight of the 10 ranked opponents he has faced this year and is 16-3 overall.

• At No. 1 doubles, Dahlin and Pierce Shaya are 4-0. In dual doubles, Dahlin boasts a 5-1 record and is 12-2 in doubles this season, including an 8-2 mark with Bjorn Swenson, his partner at the NCAA Tournament.

• Swenson has won his last two matches and is 4-2 at No. 2 singles. He is currently ranked No. 71 in the ITA singles rankings with a 12-6 singles record this year.

•  Mert Oral is on a four-match win streak, tying his career best streak, as he sits with a 5-2 mark at No. 4 singles. He enters the weekend with a 13-9 dual singles career record.

•  At the bottom of the lineup, at No. 5 and 6, Shaya and Arnav Bhandari are both on two-match win streaks. Bhandari’s win on Feb. 21 was the match clincher for the Wolverines in their win over Ball State.
