Utes Overwhelm Utah Tech, 15-0

by Diego Ramírez – Managing Editor
ST. GEORGE, UtahDanika Wilson, Shonty Passi and Cian Noli each drove in three runs and the University of Utah softball team rang up its highest run total since 2019, trouncing the Utah Tech Trailblazers, 15-0, on Friday afternoon at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah.

The Utes have now won four straight and are 14-5 in 2026.

The offensive onslaught started immediately, with the Utes loading the bases in the first and a run coming across when Kayla Lyon grounded into a fielder’s choice. Wilson then belted the first pitch she saw into right field for her second homer in as many days, a three-run tater that made the score 4-0. Passi made it 5-0 moments later with a long ball of her own, her first of the year, to cap off the scoring in the opening inning.

Utah added three more to their lead in the second thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Passi and a two-run single courtesy of Noli, then put together another big inning in the third. This one started with a walk, a double and a run-scoring wild pitch. Following another walk, Lyon peppered the center field fence with an RBI double and two run-scoring walks came soon after. Jolie Mayfield and Hailee White finished off the six-run outburst with consecutive sacrifice flies to make the score 14-0.

The day’s final blow was struck by Kate Blunt in the fifth, when she walloped a solo homer to left for the first four-bagger of her collegiate career. Rio Mendez also registered the first hit of her career with a single later in the fifth.

The 15 runs tallied by the Utes is the program’s highest total since they scored 17 times against Arizona State on March 24, 2019.

In the circle, starter Shelbee Jones and reliever Anna Reimers combined to twirl a five-hit shutout. Jones’ three scoreless innings earned her win No. 5 in 2026, while Reimers finished the day with two innings of one-hit ball, including a perfect fifth.
