Why Birthday Freebies Shouldn’t Require Apps

by Diego Ramírez – Managing Editor

We’re all friends, right?

Okay, good. Can I complain for a minute here?

I know that this problem I’m facing is ranked pretty low as far as importance, but I feel like this is something everyone can relate to on some level.

My complaint is why does every business want me to download an app these days?

Birthday Freebies Used to Be Simple

Here’s the situation: my birthday is coming up, and I’d like to take advantage of some of those freebies that places give out. However, just about EVERYWHERE wants me to download their app or sign up for their email, and I’m so over it.

“Back in my day,” you could just go to a restaurant, show your ID, and get a free dessert. Man… that was the life.

The App Overload Problem

Nowadays, you have to have an app for just about every place you go to. So, you end up with dozens of apps on your phone that you forget about and never use anyway. They just end up taking up a bunch of space on your phone.

Also, if I have the app, stop sending me emails too!

All I want is a free coffee and pastry on my birthday, not a bunch of apps that I’ll use once and then forget they exist.

Let’s go back to the good old days when you could just tell them it was your birthday and they gave you a free scoop of ice cream.

Okay — complaining over. Thank you.
