AME Church responds after Harrisburg-area reverend’s arrest

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is responding after a Harrisburg-area reverend was arrested for alleged child sex crimes.

Michael McMullen, 68, of Harrisburg, was asked to step down when they first learned of allegations in November 2025, according to a statement on Wednesday from the church.

“Our churches are sacred spaces and must remain safe havens for all, especially children and
vulnerable individuals,” the statement reads. “We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct of any kind. Such conduct, if proven, is wholly inconsistent with our faith, our values, and the sacred trust placed in clergy leadership.”

The church said it’s also cooperating with law enforcement.
