Greenwood Industries and TWC Phoenix Expand with Acquisitions.

Greenwood Industries is rapidly expanding it reach across the Northeast by announcing two recent acquisitions.

The  2023 RC Commercial Roofing Contractor of the Year announced that it entered into a strategic partnership with Silktown Roofing, Inc., headquartered in Manchester, Conn. Silktown was founded in 1984, and is one of the Northeast’s most established and respected commercial roofing contractors.

Over four decades in operation, Silktown has built a reputation for safety, quality workmanship, and lasting client relationships across commercial, industrial, and institutional markets. Silktown delivers a comprehensive suite of capabilities spanning roof installation, replacement, custom sheet metal fabrication, and ongoing maintenance and repair on all major roofing systems.

The company serves a deep, longstanding base of general contractors, property managers, and building owners – many of whom have partnered with Silktown for years, a news release stated. BaseRock Partners, an investment bank built to serve the engineering and construction industry, served as the exclusive financial advisor for Silktown.

“The partnership with Greenwood positions Silktown to accelerate its growth objectives while preserving the operational leadership, culture, and customer-first approach that have defined the business since its founding,” a release from BaseRock stated.

“Together, Silktown and Greenwood will offer a combined platform with expanded geographic coverage, a deeper range of commercial roofing and building envelope services, and the resources to pursue larger and more complex projects.”

Growth in Waterproofing, Too

TWC Phoenix, Greenwood’s waterproofing subsidiary, also announced the acquisition of Brunca Waterproofing, a Rhode Island–based commercial waterproofing contractor with a legacy dating back to 1976.

For nearly five decades, Brunca has earned a strong regional reputation for quality workmanship, technical expertise, and long-standing client relationships. Its capabilities in

below-grade waterproofing, traffic coatings, and structural protection enhance TWC Phoenix’s ability to deliver comprehensive building envelope solutions throughout Southern New England, including Connecticut and New York.

Brunca will continue operating under its existing name, with its leadership team remaining in place to ensure continuity for employees and customers.

High school hockey player who lost family in Rhode Island shooting sends team to state title game with 2OT goal

Nearly a month after losing his mother, brother and grandfather following the Feb. 16 shooting during a Pawtucket, Rhode Island, high school hockey game, Colin Dorgan sent his team to the state title game with a double-overtime goal with 48.1 seconds remaining.

After Portsmouth nearly scored on a wrap-around to win it, Blackstone Valley went on the counterattack. Dorgan, who was stuck up ice, was wide open in the neutral zone. That’s when Camden Governo fed him a pass, and Dorgan skated in alone and went five-hole to put the team into the state championship game for the second time since 2024 with a 3-2 win.

Dorgan called the goal the “greatest moment” of his life afterward. It was his third in his past two games after he netted a pair last week. The senior had only scored twice during his entire high school career heading into the Rhode Island state playoffs.

Colin made sure Rhonda, Aidan and Gerald Dorgan were close to his heart as he wore a patch bearing their initials.

“It’s absolutely surreal what’s been happening,” Dorgan said afterward, via the Providence Journal. “I really love my boys, my team and I think we’re really bonding together. And I think now, out of all times, is a perfect time to just bear down together and push through. And I think these goals aren’t coming just for myself. I got to get the pass before I could shoot the puck. I think it’s really a team effort, and I think we’re all there for each other truly.”

Blackstone Valley head coach Chris Librizzi told WPRI that once he saw Dorgan was open at center ice, he knew something special was about to happen.

«No matter what we do now in the final game, that right there, he’s going to remember that for a lifetime,» Librizzi said. «We’re not done, there’s a destiny for us.”

Dorgan’s mother, Rhonda, and brother, Aidan, were killed inside Dennis M. Lynch Arena during the team’s senior night in February. Gerald Dorgan, Rhonda’s father, died from his injuries a week later. Linda Dorgan, Colin’s grandmother, and a family friend, Thomas Geruso, were wounded. Robert Dorgan, Colin’s father, was identified as the shooter and died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“We have to stick together,” Dorgan said. “It’s a hard time for everyone. We have each other’s back and we truly love each other. … These are my brothers.”

Dorgan and No. 5 Blackstone Valley will face the No. 2 Lincoln Lions next Wednesday in the state championship game.

Rhode Island AG to unveil report on Diocese of Providence clergy abuse – NBC Boston

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha will release on Wednesday findings from a multiyear investigation into child sexual abuse in the Diocese of Providence.

According to the attorney general’s office, the report will detail the diocese’s handling of clergy abuse over decades. Survivors are expected to be in attendance.

Neronha’s press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m., and you can watch it live in the video player above.

While the smallest state in the U.S., Rhode Island is home to the country’s largest Catholic population per capita, with nearly 40% of the state identifying as Catholic, according to the Pew Research Center.

Neronha first launched the investigation in 2019, nearly a year after a Pennsylvania grand jury report found more than 1,000 children had been abused by an estimated 300 priests in that state since the 1940s. The 2018 report is considered one of the broadest inquiries into child sexual abuse in U.S. history.

Neronha’s investigation involved entering into an agreement with the Diocese of Providence to gain access to all complaints and allegations of child sexual abuse by clergy dating back to 1950. Neronha’s office said in 2019 that the goal of the report was to determine how the diocese responded to past reports of child sexual abuse, identify any prosecutable cases, and ensure that no credibly accused clergy were in active ministry.

Rhode Island State Police also helped with the investigation.

Brown University: Concierto para agradecer a Providence tras el tiroteo

Después del trágico tiroteo del 13 de diciembre en el campus de la Universidad Brown, los estudiantes regresaron a un entorno que ya no se sentía igual. El impacto, el dolor y el miedo persistían, pero junto a ellos, surgió algo inesperado: la inmensa amabilidad de la comunidad de Providence.

Vecinos abrieron sus hogares a estudiantes que necesitaban un lugar donde dormir, restaurantes ofrecieron comidas gratuitas sin dudarlo, y desconocidos se ofrecieron a llevarlos al aeropuerto. Al regresar en enero, la ciudad estaba adornada con carteles que decían «Providence ama a Brown», visibles en ventanas, restaurantes y escuelas locales.

Para dos estudiantes de Brown, este apoyo significó un cambio radical.

Theo Coben, estudiante de segundo año, explicó que la idea de un concierto de agradecimiento surgió durante las largas y silenciosas vacaciones de invierno, mientras intentaba encontrarle un sentido a lo sucedido. “Buscaba un propósito, algo positivo que surgiera de la tragedia”, dijo. “En lugar de sumirme en el dolor, quería mirar hacia afuera.”

Seis semanas después del trágico evento, los estudiantes regresaron al campus. Ellison Mucharsky, estudiante de último año, sintió lo mismo, especialmente al ver la profunda acogida de la ciudad.

“Vecinos literalmente abrieron sus casas a estudiantes el 13 de diciembre y los días siguientes”, comentó. “Ver los carteles ‘Providence ama a Brown’ por todas partes… nos hizo sentir que no estábamos solos.”

Una noche para sanar — juntos

Coben y Mucharsky son algunos de los organizadores de «Thank You, PVD», un concierto benéfico que tendrá lugar el viernes 6 de marzo en The Strand Ballroom. El lugar, con capacidad para casi 1,900 personas, fue donado por su propietario, Frank Manfredi Jr., después de que los estudiantes le presentaran la idea.

La noche contará con la participación de músicos y oradores de la Universidad Brown, y está abierto a todos: estudiantes de Brown, residentes de Providence, familias locales, cualquier persona que quiera mostrar su apoyo.

“Este evento es liderado, interpretado y organizado por estudiantes”, afirmó Coben. “Es nuestro regalo a la comunidad.”

Mucharsky espera que el concierto brinde a las personas una oportunidad para reconectar y sanar. “La sanación no ocurre en aislamiento”, explicó. “Sucede cuando las personas se apoyan mutuamente. Ya sea bailando, escuchando música o simplemente abrazando a alguien, así es como avanzamos.”

Devolviendo el favour a la ciudad que tanto dio

Todos los fondos recaudados en el concierto se destinarán a la campaña Brown Loves PVD, que apoya a los negocios locales y los esfuerzos de recuperación comunitaria relacionados con los eventos del 13 de diciembre. Donantes afiliados a Brown se han comprometido a igualar cada dólar recaudado, hasta un máximo de $30,000.

Mucharsky explicó que el objetivo es simple: asegurarse de que la comunidad sienta el mismo apoyo que recibieron los estudiantes de Brown. “Queremos que la gente sepa que el amor que rodea a Brown y Providence siempre será más fuerte que el odio”, dijo. “Providence estuvo ahí para nosotros. Ahora nosotros estamos ahí para Providence.”
