Washington State Beats Seattle U, 80-58

LAS VEGAS — Washington State defeated Seattle U 80-58 at the Orleans Arena on Thursday in the first round of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Championship. Washington State took control in the second quarter, outscoring Seattle U 27-15, and maintained its lead throughout the game. The Cougars capitalized on turnovers, scoring 17 points off Seattle U’s 17 turnovers, and held a significant 38-26 advantage in points in the paint.

With the win, the Cougars will advance to play No. 8 seed Pacific on Friday at noon on ESPN+.

Washington State outscored Seattle U 27-15 in the second quarter, driven by a shooting performance of 58 percent from the field, including 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Cougars capitalized on turnovers, generating eight points off three steals while maintaining a 13-6 advantage in rebounds. At the halftime break, Washington State held a 44-32 lead.

WSU extended its lead with a strong third quarter, outscoring Seattle U 17-12. 

Eleonora Villa stood out for Washington State with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Her efforts included hitting two three-pointers and securing four of five free throws. Mackenzie Chatfield led the team in assists with five along with three steals and eight points. Keandra Koorits scored 13 points with a pair of treys. Additionally, Malia Ruud provided scored 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Tamia Stricklin stood out for Seattle U with 17 points and 11 rebounds, securing a double-double. Stricklin’s scoring came with efficiency from beyond the arc, making three out of nine attempts. Jana Vesic contributed significantly with 11 points and also led the team in steals, adding two to her stat line. Chloe Emanga added 10 points and provided defensive support with two steals.
