El Índice Competitivo del Turismo: Medición de inversión y desarrollo en áreas turísticas

Competur, the alliance that brings together the hospitality industry (Hosteleros de España), beer producers (Cerveceros de España), and hoteliers (JEHAT) has presented today, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the general guidelines of a new index that will measure which areas of tourism-related investment contribute the most to the development of their respective areas of influence.

The Competitive Index will analyze a wide range of demographic factors, economic indicators, and measurements of quality of life to obtain the direct, indirect, and induced relationship between tourism activity and its impact on these areas, with the aim of “incorporating a qualitative perspective that complements the currently descriptive indicators available, allowing for a more in-depth analysis of the relationship between the areas impacted by tourism and how a more efficient investment can contribute to improving competitiveness”.

In a context of recovery of the best indicators in the history of the sector, Competur recalls that “the celebration of World Tourism Day gives us a new opportunity to reflect on the positive impact that tourism has on our society and to recognize the importance of working together between public administrations and the private sector. “At Competur, we firmly believe in the importance of tourism as a driver of economic and social development in Spain,” said Jacobo Olalla, a member of Competur’s Committee and CEO of Cerveceros de España.

Tourism, a driver of social cohesion

In this way, Competur invites all citizens, companies, third sector organizations, and public decision-makers to join the conversation about the essential role of tourism in Spain and to participate in the monitoring and analysis of the results of the Competur Index. “This study, which is conducted annually, aims to provide new data and identify the positive externalities of tourism, identifying how the sector can contribute more significantly to the well-being of our communities and the growth of the economy,” adds Emilio Gallego, a member of Competur’s Committee and CEO of Hostelería de España.

“Tourism is an essential driver for economic growth and prosperity in Spain: it enables productive diversification, fosters innovation, promotes competitiveness, and contributes to regional development and social cohesion, improving coexistence and cultural integration. However, to preserve this unique contributory role, it is necessary to advance towards a more competitive framework that allows the entire tourism industry to face its transformation process while maintaining its leadership,” concludes Competur.
